Alcon makes ophthalmological drugs. Quality is very important, because without the approval of the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) or other agencies, they cannot sell medication. Validation engineers play a key role; they test the processes and systems that Alcon uses for production, and which have an influence on quality. Think for example of reactors, analysers, laboratory applications, supervision systems and ERP software.
The Puurs site has expanded fast. Production capacity was increased by new machines and advanced automation. Improving processes is a constant quest in order to stay ahead of the competition. That brings a lot of validation work with it. Peak workloads have to be handled too.
Alcon entered into a partnership with Ordina. The Ordina Quality team is involved in a large number of validation projects in the pharmaceutical sector, and offers tremendous flexibility for partnerships.
