The “Internet of Things”, where equipment and devices are connected to a central network, is developing rapidly.
Proximus was the first telecom operator in Belgium to roll out an IoT network based on LoRa™ technology. LoRaTM stands for Long Range Low Power. Sensors are connected directly to the new IoT network so that the owner can then safely call up the centralised data. Given that LoRaTM uses very little energy for long distance communication, the batteries for connected sensors last several years and the devices can function autonomously for years. Life and work will change radically as a result. By 2020 between 20 and 50 billion devices are expected to be connected worldwide.
